  • *All professionals applying for a cosmetology license must undergo a criminal background check with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to determine eligibility for a license. The Texas Legislature allows a student to check on eligibility status before applying to attend school , in order to determine whether he or she would likely be denied a license due to his or her criminal record. If you are unsure about your eligibility for a license, please visit Frequently Asked Questions at: www.license.state.tx.us/crimHistoryEval.htm#faqs and learn more before enrolling.
  • **Every individual who applies for a license with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) is subject to a criminal background check to determine his or her suitability for the license. TDSHS publishes Criminal Conviction Guidelines for each occupation the Department licenses. These guidelines list the crimes which are considered to relate to each occupation, as well as other factors that affect the decisions of the Department. Prospective students are able to find out before applying whether they would likely be denied a license due to criminal history. All students should review the TDSHS's Criminal Conviction Guidelines prior to applying for enrollment and request a criminal history evaluation letter if they believe they may be at risk of a denied license. The costs associated with the criminal history request are the responsibility of the prospective student. The school is not responsible for students who are denied licensure based on criminal convictions.
