What is life like after graduating from cosmetology and make-up school at Avenue Five Institute in Austin? Take one look at our former student Bekah Parker and you’ll see life is looking fabulously floral. In fact, we want to congratulate Bekah—one of the hardest working students we’ve had the privilege of working with over the years. Bekah inspired us all when she studied cosmetology all day and then took make-up classes in the evening.
Bekah recently showcased her range of talents—hair and makeup—at the RAW ARTIST Showcase in Portland, Oregon. For the event, Bekah took on a large endeavor: creating six unique looks on six models. She oversaw hair, makeup and costumes! And guess what? To no one’s surprise, she kicked BUTT!!!
We were overjoyed to hear of Bekah’s success in the world. Naturally, we wanted to know more about our standout alumni turned RAW ARTISIT superstar.
Q: Tell us more about this showcase!
BEKAH: RAW ARTIST hosts showcases across the world. The theme for this one was “envision” and my personal theme for my models was floral. So, each one was inspired by a different flower/floral design…At the actual show, my models posed on pedestals for photos, walked down a runway, and were able to roam around the venue and network for me.
Q: How long did you prepare for something like this?
BEKAH: I had about three months to prepare… so I had to find models, come up with the concept for each, buy all my materials, test out different looks, create the costumes and props and then practice.
Q: Would you recommend this experience to current students and industry professionals?
BEKAH: It was an awesome experience for me to network and meet people in, not only my industry, but the artistic community out here as well. I met a lot of people for potential future collaborations, which I’m very excited about. And I learned about promoting, ticket selling and creating a whole project from the very start… things I learned in school that I was able to apply my career in the real world. Also, a couple of my models got approached for other projects!

Every current and former student of Avenue Five Institute is a part of our family. And like any solid family, we want to support and encourage one another in every way we can. We believe it’s all about building relationships like the one we have with Bekah.
