Each year, the students and staff of Avenue Five Institute donate their talent and time to give back to the community and a collection of charitable causes. Over the past 5 years, Avenue Five has donated 5000+ hours of community service to assist the sick, the homeless, the unfortunate, and the challenged. The organization’s primary charitable cause is the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin.
Why the Breast Cancer Resource Center?
The wife and mother of the school’s owners (husband and son respectively) was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer just months after the school’s opening in 2007. The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin was there to help their family, and thousands of other families, through their journey. Nobody should face cancer alone, and this is why the BCRC has become the focal point of Avenue Five Institute’s charitable giving.
To support the BCRC, students and staff have served on the Board of Directors, volunteered for countless events, made dozens of “Art Bras” for auction, and donated thousands of dollars to help the 20,000 breast cancer fighters that the organization assists. Thanks to the efforts of our staff and students, the owners and Avenue Five Institute have contributed over $50,000 to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin.
Avenue Five has also proud to work with the following organizations:
- Any Baby Can
- Dell Children’s Hospital
- St. David’s Hospital
- Settlement Home
- Austin Homeless Resource Fair
- Austin Homeless Christmas Drive
- Goodwill Inc.
- Austin ISD
- Lake Travis Youth Association
BCRC Art Bra Fundraiser
Every year, the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin puts on its signature fundraiser, the Art Bra Auction and Runway Show. The event features an eclectic collection of art bras modeled by BCRC clients, reflecting the diversity of the women they serve. Students of Avenue Five have created and donated Art Bras to be featured in the live and silent auctions, raising thousands of dollars each year and enhancing awareness for those battling breast cancer. Below are just a few of the incredible Art Bras created by students of Avenue Five.
